The Ekiden relay race format will invite teams of up to six people from all over the world and of different abilities to come together to complete a combined virtual marathon. Participants will run 26,2-mile challenge sections (41 km) and will pass their own "Tasuki" Interactive, the narrow strip of cloth used in traditional Japanese Ekiden races.

Powered by a new racing platform using Race Roster and the ASICS Runkeeper app, the Ekiden will combine the best of virtual and real-world racing, allowing teams around the world to track their progress in real time. Teams will also be able to see themselves on the leaderboards live online while enjoying a personalized in-race audio experience.

From tracking your team's progress in real time on your best Apple Watch, Garmin or Fitbit device to ranking on the live online leaderboards and enjoying a personalized in-race audio experience, “you will experience the excitement, connection and motivation» of the team competition no matter how far you are from your teammates.
