Orangetheory Fitness, the new high intensity training

Can you imagine training at high intensity when the light in the gym turns orange? It is the initiative created by the North American chain Orange Theory Fitness and that it has already arrived in our country. There are directed classes in almost all gyms, but high intensity and extra motivation?

OrangeTheory has created a method aimed at maximum intensity, for a short period of time, and that helps to reach the exact metabolic point to burn calories up to 36 hours after the end of the session.

What are the routines?

We are facing a training very similar to HIIT and Functional Training. It is based on a system of interval training, in which our body undergoes cardio, strength and power exercises. Materials will be used rowing machines, bands, TRX, treadmills, weights, medicine balls, bosu… Everything that helps us tone the body and burn calories!

The classes are not crowded (only up to 24 people), so that the monitor can indicate us perfectly and keep an eye on us. The fun comes when in the session we enter the «orange zone«; at least we'll get through 12 of the 60 minutes how long does the class last What is the purpose of this orange color?

In those 12 minutes we will train at a high intensity to achieve the after-burn effect. That is, we will consume an excess of oxygen after exercise, causing our metabolism to be stimulated and we spend more energy. It is exactly the same thing that happens when we practice HIIT. They ensure that they are consumed between 500 and 1.000 calories in 60 minutes and they can continue to burn calories for the next 24 to 36 hours.

Each user wears a heart rate monitor so they can see their results on the studio screens, and later on their smartwatch. The orange zone is not only the bright environment of the gym, but also the heart rate zone from which we cannot go down for at least 12 minutes.

What do you think of this type of initiative? It is true that they are not made for all types of users and that they do not discover a new training, but motivation is an important incentive that they do work.

    Hello, a question about the fat burning claim, I don't understand: why does the body burn muscle after 40 minutes if it still has fat to burn. I would understand what happens if there is no fat left to burn, that it turns to another source. Thanks
