Embotits d'Oix is a meat company in Catalonia where the health authorities have located the listeria monocytogenes bacterium in different batches of sausages. A harsh investigation has been launched, even eliminating up to 9 batches of sausages from the market and (temporarily) closing the company's activity.
For now, fortunately, there are no cases in Spain of listeria related to this company. The health authorities of Catalonia notified the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) of the presence of listeria in different meat products that had been produced by Embotits D'Oix (a company based in Girona).
9 lots withdrawn and the company closed until further notice
The products withdrawn are botifarra d'ou, bull blanc, botifarra negra, botifarra de fetge, botifarra all i julivert and the lots involved are 2106, 2107, 2108, 2109, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2113 and 2114. They have only been marketed in Catalonia, but the authorities have launched the notice nationwide.
If we have these products at home, it is best to return them to the store where we bought them and not think about consuming them. As it is a health alert, there should be no problem recovering the money.
The Public Health Agency of Catalonia has suspended the activity of the companyThis is because the presence of listeria has set off alarm bells about the lack of sanitary guarantees in the company and its products.
The curious thing about listeria, unlike other bacteria, is that it can grow even in freezers. After ingesting products with the bacteria, we feel chills, fever, vomiting, general malaise, stomach ache, etc.
If we comply with these symptoms, we must quickly go to a hospital to be evaluated by specialists and start antibiotic treatment as soon as possible.
listeria may be in unpasteurized dairy products, meat foods made with meats that were already contaminated, unpasteurized meat foods, cooked and cured sausages, meals prepared with contaminated foods, etc.
