One of the most famous marathons in the world opens the registration period in a few days. Yes, anyone can participate from anywhere in the world, as long as we are willing to pay for transportation, accommodation and registration for the race.
The New York marathon will be held in the city on November 7, 2021, but the registration period will begin on June 8. Unlike other years, in this race there are already people signed up and they are those participants who could not run in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.
So much so, that when they saw that the marathon was cancelled, they voted and 54% wanted the 2021 edition to be held. At that time, two options were put on the table, either return the registration or change the number for the participation of 2021, 2022 or 2023. Hence, in this new edition there are already some registered participants.
The New York marathon will be face-to-face and virtual
In 2020 the edition of the New York marathon was done online and more than 16.000 runners participated. This year something similar will happen for those who cannot or do not want to travel, but do want to be part of this great sporting event.
The New York marathon will be held in person on November 7, 2021 with 33.000 runners, but between October 23 and November 7, 2021 the online edition will be held.
Both inscriptions go separately. If we want to participate in the race in person, we must register between June 8 and June 15, 2021. On the contrary, if we want to participate in the virtual edition, registrations open on June 10, that is, in just a few days.
But it's not about going there and running and then taking a sightseeing tour of the city, no. Let's remember that we are in a pandemic, and the global alert will probably remain active in November.
By this we mean that, to run that marathon, you must comply with all the security measures imposed by the national government of the United States and the regional government of New York for the celebration of massive events such as this race.
The measures include the safety distance, the vaccination passport or some document that proves that we are vaccinated, presenting a negative Covid test and similar actions.
In order to comply with the safety distance between runners and reduce the contact zones on the route, as well as avoid the funnel of participants at the start of the marathon, the starts will be staggered.
The New York marathon has a route of just over 42 kilometers and runs through the 5 districts of the American city, among which we highlight some mythical areas, for example, Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, runs along Fifth Avenue and Central Park. The finish line is located at Tavern on the Green.

It is true that "anyone" can participate, but it is not that easy. It is similar to the cut-off marks from the University, that is, it goes by grades and everything is detailed in the official website.
If we intend to register face to face, let us know that it is impossible and they will send us directly to the lottery area where places will be assigned randomly in case there is a free place days before the race is held.
To have more possibilities, we have two options or pay a generous amount for charitable purposes, or accredit other brands, that is, having participated in other races that give points for the one in New York.
In case of getting a place, but finally, due to injury or illness, we cannot attend, they automatically authorize us a place for the next edition.
